Portland, ME, April 7, 2007
3C Race Productions second event had a much larger crowd than
first, but it almost had to be cancelled after 10 inches of snow
fell in Portland, Maine 2 days before the race. At first Portland
Parks & Rec pledged to have the trail plowed the day before the
race, but they found spots on the trail that would have been
damaged by plowing and strongly suggested we move the race to the
roads. JR at the Maine Running Company came through and quickly
measured (roughly) a 5K out and back on Baxter Blvd and the race
was on. Credit goes to Portland Parks & Rec for helping arrange for
the Portland Police to send not one; not two; not three; but four
officers to assist with traffic control.
Despite the snowstorm keeping 25% of the registered runners home,
the crowd of 100+ enjoyed a beautiful race alongside the Back Cove
under Sunny skies with temperatures in the mid-forties. With no
wind to boot. Runners were served cincamon buns, bagels with peanut
butter, 2 kinds of muffins, and sourdough pretzels post race.
Andy Latincsics came up from New Jersey to take the win with a
stellar time of 16:07. Kathryn Fetteroll was tops for the ladies
in 20:16. 61 year old Ice Wagon crossed the line in 28:42 to
(almost) take home a coveted Luv2Run Beer Mug, but in order to
hide his anonymity he skipped out ealier and his beer mug went
intothe post race raffle.
Speaking of raffles, once again 3CRP put on a great raffle. More
than 1 in 10 took home a prize, including 3 pairs of Vasque Trail
Running Shoes, FuelBelts, RoadID Kits, Luv2Run Beer Mugs, and more.
Will the runner who finished in 30:15 and ran all the way through
the chute with their number hidden let us know who you are. We like
to have our results complete (except for an Ice Wagon or two).
