The #4 “Closest Finish” in FOC history is the 2005 boys race between Corey DeWitt of Ellsworth (spoiler alert – Corey will be featured in another upcoming close finish) and Tyler Clark of Lisbon. A pack of 4 including DeWitt, Clark, Sam Sheehan of Caribou and Andrew Coleman of Cumberland RI broke away early and as they came down the finishing stretch DeWitt used his great track speed to get ahead of Clark by 0.8 seconds – 16:06.9 to 16:07.7. DeWitt, Clark, and Sheehan – all juniors – would return the next year and stage another epic battle over the 5K course at the Troy Howard Middle School.
