Olympic Trials Marathon
115th place out of 222 (I was the 192nd seed)
did not quite have the result I was looking for, but I still fought hard and finished near the middle of the field. I felt great through mile 10. I was executing a perfect race. Then some stomach issues made me stop at a portajohn at mile 11. After that, I was unable to get down my fluids due to my stomach. Once you can’t take in fluids in a marathon, it’s going to be a bumpy ride. Adjusted my pace and kept trying to take in fluids as best as I could. In mile 19, I threw up on the side of the road and kept going. Had to stay tough. But was still able to move up over the last few miles. Definitely a character builder, and I can’t wait to take another shot at this in four years from now. I was fit and ready. I did everything right during the race. Just did not have the stomach today.
Thanks again for everyone who has supported me. I will be working on shorter distances for the foreseeable future. But the marathon will be in my plans for the 2024 Olympic Trials. The fitness I gained during this training cycle will stick with me, and that’s certainly reassuring!

Edward Little Coach Rick Smith states on February 29 at 7:20 PM ·
“Congrats to Olivia Jalbert, Julia Berube, and Jake Jackson for their performances at the New England High School Track meet today. Although they might not have gotten the results they wanted, it was awesome to see them perform against the best in New England.
As we were leaving the boys 2 mile was finishing. The winning time was 8:53. Folks that back to back 4:27 miles. It was the fastest 2 mile time run in the US this year by s high school student.
Impressive.”

Louis M. Peters, 95, of Methuen passed away peacefully Friday, February 21, 2020 at Nevins Nursing Home in Methuen surrounded by his loving family. Beloved son of the late Peter and Mary Peters, he was born in Lawrence, MA, on November 9, 1924.

A strong and gentle man, Louis enjoyed running, most especially running many local road races, visiting the YMCA, and spending as much time possible with his family. Louis worked for over six decades at Sears as a salesman. He had great determination to complete each job perfectly. Most of all, Louis loved to run and was always ready for any challenge. Louis was a member of the Merrimack Valley Striders and also the New England 65+ Runners club.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Abraham, George, William, Julia, and Anne.

Louis will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Linda Peters of Haverhill, and Karen Touma and her husband, Steven of Salem, NH; adored grandson, Joseph Touma and his wife, Patrice of Salem, NH; and his great-granddaughter, Carmela J. Touma. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, from 3:00-7:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley Street in Methuen. At the request of the family, funeral services and burial will be private.
