“Leprechaun Lucky 5K” announced for March 14th, 2009
The 1st annual “Leprechaun Lucky 5K” will occur on March 14th, 2009 with walkers and runners of all abilities invited to participate or ‘opt-out’ in this unique and fun event. A great way to welcome in Spring!
Local runners Allison Leonard, Reade Brower, and Annie Hart will host this special event as part of their Death Valley Marathon fundraising.
These three local runners have pledged to raise over $10,000 collectively to provide assistance to the Little Field Home; an orphanage run by Janet Littlefield, a mid-coast native and the daughter of Doc and Julie Littlefield.
There is a lot to like about this race; our aim is to make it special and you’ll want to be part of what will become an annual tradition.
Our start time of 10:59am will help with the weather, plus it gives you time to sleep in, do a few chores, and still be ready for our run/walk event. When you’re done, perhaps you’ll be ready for a few green beers or some hearty Irish foods and spirits that will be available for lunch following the event.
We have many secret plans that will make this a ‘one of a kind’ race with lots of awards and ‘specials’.
Our “Set the Pace 5K” on January 1st was greeted with zero degree weather and a wind-chill that was measured at -10 degrees at race time. Yet, 109 participants registered and 96 showed up with 94 finishing! A great accomplishment, for a great cause.
Our “best and less dressed” winners and our middle of the pack runner will get to try their luck reaching into my money bag.
The first place male and female winners and all age groups will be awarded prizes as well as a stroller, dog, and In-Utero divison that will all be acknowledged.
Lots of other surprises planned. We’ll start and end at the Boston Financial building in the south end (old MBNA building). Our hosts, Almalfi’s Restaurant, will be our start and finish. They will be warm food and cold beer flowing and we hope a fun time for all. Perhaps someone will volunteer some Irish music?
Some races have ‘best costume’, we like the idea of the ‘less costume’ awarded to the male and female runners with the least clothing on. Wear something green and perhaps you’ll get “lucky” out there.
The race course we’re planning will start at Almalfi’s and wind its’ way up to the Industrial Park and then back down by the Outward Bound and Sharp’s Wharf buildings; the last mile will hug the ocean and is all downhill and flat making for fast times!
We’ll even offer the greatest perk of all; the “opt-out” runners special; this is where you’ll get a race number for the raffle but you don’t have to run. You can pick a proxy runner and you’ll be listed right below your proxy runner with their time – a real chance to get a PR.!
The race will feature a suggested donation of $15 and the first “lucky 77” entries will receive a souvenir (collectible) from the 1st annual “Leprechaun Lucky 5K” race.
We’re still thinking and hatching up ideas and fun; just wanted to whet your whistle, get you to start training and thinking about the running season ahead. Time to get off the treadmill and back onto the road!
Use this as a tune-up race to see where you’re at for the upcoming running and walking races; just make sure you put 10:59am, Saturday, March 14th, 2009 on your calendar.
