2014 Lucky Leprechaun

ROCKLAND — The 6th annual Lucky Leprechaun 5K, part of a five-race series, began and ended at Trackside Station with more than 100 runners and walkers joining to raise money for Go! Malawi and enjoy a spirited run or walk.

The 5K was run in 45 degree Fahrenheit weather with rain and completely overcast skies, but the race was decorated with lots of St. Patrick’s Day attire on display.

Go! Malawi’s mission is to collaborate with rural Malawian communities to develop sustainable programs in education, health care, commerce, and conservation.

In Saturday’s race, on a new course just to mix things up a little, 23-year-old Patrick O’Donnell of Warren took first place with a time of 19:24. Abby Hersom, 18, of Rockland was the first female to cross the finish line and was fourth overall with a time of 20:06.

Awards were given to first and second place winners for each age group.
