We are thankful for the editor of the “News*Run” for publishing three photos of Maine Track Club runners in the newsletter. A number of Maine Track Club members supported the Breakaway 5k, volunteered in many different ways but this race was not listed in the newsletter & the race results (we guess) were later posted by Charles Scribner/Robert Aube in their roles as the timing service &/or role as Maine Track Club on the MTC website. These people have many different roles that they play in serving the Maine running community. The question we might ask now is: Was it Don Penta who took the three photos & where are the other photos not used?

Location: Old Orchard Beach
Note: Several runners in the middle of the pack have written to question the accuracy
of these results. Times for some runners who finished between 20 and 23 minutes might
not be correct, apparently because some of the bib numbers got mixed up after the race,
with no way of knowing what the proper order should be.

A good day was had by all in the little town of Saco, ME as 35 runners finished the Saco Sport & Fitness 10K with Mike Payson setting a new course record of 32:14 beating his old course record by 52 seconds with nobody in sight of him as he crossed the finish line. George Towle placed second with a 34:40 followed by Donald Hebert in 35:51.

In the female field, we saw Denise Harlow way up front finishing with a fine time of 36:45 followed by Rose Prest-Morrison with a 38:17 and Laurel Valley closing at 39:45.

The 5K run had twice as many runners with some equally good times. Ron Newbury lead the in 16:144 with Jeffrey Tidd closing in 17:13 with Willie-Bob Lund pushing him across the line in 17:33. The women were led by Leslie Mourmouras crossing the line in 19:48 followed by Lisa Sommer with Kate Myers breathing down her neck as they tied with a 20:46.
