The Race was still on as of 7am this morning

Another year, another running of the Irish Road Rover 5K in Portland. For the 2nd year in a row, the race took place on the Eastern Promenade Trail, but this year, parts of it were under water. Huge puddles, some avoidable, but one really deep one with no way around. My socks are still wet. Also they had to alter the turn around as the official turnaround is temporarily part of the ocean. We simply turned left instead of right to reach the turn around and had to hop a curb. While there was a slight drizzle at times, it was insignificant compared to the rain before the race. As for me, well, my legs were seemingly unwilling participants. They were heavy and sluggish before the end of the 1st mile. It could be my reduced milage as I’m rebuilding from in jury, it could have been daylight savings time, it could have been the wet and windy conditions, or it could have been a combination. I didn’t do awful, but I was way off from my goal and over 40 seconds slower than last year. I finished 56th out of 393 runners(over 800 registered so many did not race due to the conditions) with a time of 22:11. No age group award this year, but I didn’t miss by much.
The good news is that in the running club team competition, Sabattus Rec Running Club finished 3rd. My next race will not be until April as next weeks race was cancelled due to construction on the race course.
