Olympic Trials Marathon
115th place out of 222 (I was the 192nd seed)
did not quite have the result I was looking for, but I still fought hard and finished near the middle of the field. I felt great through mile 10. I was executing a perfect race. Then some stomach issues made me stop at a portajohn at mile 11. After that, I was unable to get down my fluids due to my stomach. Once you can’t take in fluids in a marathon, it’s going to be a bumpy ride. Adjusted my pace and kept trying to take in fluids as best as I could. In mile 19, I threw up on the side of the road and kept going. Had to stay tough. But was still able to move up over the last few miles. Definitely a character builder, and I can’t wait to take another shot at this in four years from now. I was fit and ready. I did everything right during the race. Just did not have the stomach today.
Thanks again for everyone who has supported me. I will be working on shorter distances for the foreseeable future. But the marathon will be in my plans for the 2024 Olympic Trials. The fitness I gained during this training cycle will stick with me, and that’s certainly reassuring!
