BELFAST — It turned out to be a glorious day, albeit a little cool, but overall perfect for hundreds of middle school student-athletes from Searsport to Wiscasset, and the Penobscot Bay islands, who swarmed the Belfast Area High School campus on Thursday afternoon, May 24 in a quest to run, jump, throw and hurdle to Busline League track-and-field championships.
The Camden-Rockport Middle School girls and Troy Howard Middle School boys of Belfast earned team titles, while a boatload of Midcoast youngsters performed well enough to secure top places and even individual and relay crowns.
There were a bundle of close races, some decided a second — or less.
The girls team scores were: Camden-Rockport 134, Troy Howard 89, Medomak Middle School of Waldoboro 82, Great Salt Bay of Damariscotta 59, Boothbay Region Elementary School 34, Islesboro Central School 26, Jefferson Central School 20.50, Oceanside Middle School of Thomaston 11, North Haven Community School and Saint George Elementary School 4.
The boys team scores were: Troy Howard 107, Medomak 95, Camden-Rockport 80, Great Salt Bay 66, Boothbay 62, Wiscasset 24, Jefferson 15, Islesboro 8, North Haven 6 and Oceanside 1.
