Pottle Hill road race marks 25th anniversary
MECHANIC FALLS – Pottle Hill, Inc., will celebrate its 25th annual road race on Saturday, June 24, starting in the town square in Mechanic Falls.
Known over the years as “New England’s toughest 10-kilometer race,” the event begins with a tamer, one-mile fun run at 8:30 a.m., followed by the start of the 5K at 9 a.m. and the 10K at 9:15.
The course is hilly and scenic and mostly rural. It is well marked and wheel measured with water stations scattered throughout the course.
Refreshments are available after the race. Registration for the 10K and 5K is $18. Registration for the fun run is $4. There are cash prizes for top winners as well as many other giveaways. Race day volunteers receive a free t-shirt.
As part of the 25th anniversary reunion race, runners who have participated in the race over the years nay deduct $1 for each year they have run the race and are challenged to beat double their original time.
The annual event is Pottle Hill’s primary fundraiser, with proceeds dedicated to programs for persons with disabilities. Several levels of sponsorship are available. To sponsor the race or register to run, please call Suzanne Dunham at 753-1457 or go to www.pottlehill.org.
