The first annual Candy Cane Fun Run, hosted by Maine running greats Joan Benoit
Samuelson and Bruce Bickford, was held on December 17 in Portland. The non-competitive running event attracted 100 runners garbed in an array of Christmas
costumes to a four-mile course which featured a stop at the Seaside Nursing
Home for carolling. Sponsored by the Maine Association of Life Underwriters
and the Maine Track Club, the event raised nearly $1,000 for the Maine
Special Olympics.
