Three members of the Maine Track Club ran their first Casco Bay Marathon in October 1986, and two MTC runners–phil Pierce and Jean Thomas–ran fast enough in that race to Boston. Don McGilvery qualify for earned a p.r. in both the Casco Bay and the Great Pumpkin. Bruce Ellis, who finished 16th overall in a field of 6,000 in the Twin Cities Marathon, set a course record in the Veterans Day Half Marathon in Augusta.
