2022 (SIXTY YEARS) Saturday, June 2, 1962 @ Brunswick (Bowdoin College track)….defeating Stu Hudlin (Bangor), McCallister (Deering), & defending champ, Jerry Varnum (GARD), WINNING 2-mile event in record time….joining David Mazzeo & Bob Huntley of RHS, in victory for the “fighting tigers” from years long since past

“Billy” Martin, Chevrus High….I was “chasing” Sammy Burgess @ State X-C, Orono, Maine, November, 1961 & dualing w/ John Parola, Thoronton Acad. for 2nd, when out of the corner of my eye, Martin was FLYING for BOTH of us….have a picture taken @ the line w/ the THREE of us almost even; I got there 1st, BUT, Billy over-took Parola & kept him at 4th place for his sophomore, junior & senior year….often wonder what became of YESTERDAY’S athletes; in this case I wish i did not know

Bowdoin College, Maine ____AAU T&F CHAMPIONSHIPS, June 17, 1961…….Farley, (BROWN U) set record of 4:21.1 on a SOFT track….old record by PAUL FIRLOTTE of 4:24.3 set in 1955…also, winning the 880 in 1:59.3…..SECOND in BOTH races was sophomore SAM BURGESS, Morse High Of Bath, defeating Mike Kimball for 2nd w/ a 4:27.2 & a 1:59.8…..
