Desmond and Wright lead way in holiday road race

CARIBOU, Maine — There was a first-time overall winner in the Caribou Turkey Trot 5K road race, held Saturday in the snow.

Sixteen-year-old Evan Desmond of Caribou claimed the top spot by finishing the course in 19 minutes and 15.3 seconds. He came in 19.6 seconds ahead of runner-up Trevor Levesque of Presque Isle (19:34.9).

The overall top five was rounded out by Caleb Chapman (20:11.9), Thomas Krause (20:12.3) and Bruce Clark (20:50.5). Nabbing the women’s title was Kimberley Wright of Mapleton, who recorded a time of 22:20.1. Following Wright in the female division was Brittany Grass in 22:44.6 and Amy Condon in 23:32. The fastest walker was Nadeen Plourde of Caribou with a time of 45:51.3

    2016 ~ The Savage Family Turkey Trot 5k @ South Portland, Maine

    There were turkeys everywhere on 24 Nov 2016, for the Inaugural Savage Family Turkey Trot, which started at Bug Light Park in South Portland. The head gear was impressive (turkey legs, turkey feathers, chefs hats and, my favorite, a pumpkin pie hat) and maybe helped keep the chill out. But despite the cold temps, hundreds turned out for this Thanksgiving Day race, created in honor of Nathan Savage, who died this past summer while training for his first Ironman. Today would have been his 40th birthday. There were some tears before the race, but lots of smiles, too. Nathan would certainly be proud. Happy Thanksgiving Savage family, and to everyone else who turned out this morning!

    Race Details and Route

    The Annual 5K Turkey Trot is held each year on Thanksgiving morning at 8:30AM. Families, friends, runners, walkers and costumes welcome!

    Dogs not allowed. Strollers must begin race at the back of the line.

    Start: 8:30am sharp, Peirce Island, Portsmouth, NH
    Finish: Strawbery Banke (Timing by Millennium Running)
    Course Route: Starting at Peirce Island, take a left onto Marcy Street and veer right onto South Street. Follow South Street and take a right on Middle Street, take a right at the Baptist Church, and turn right onto Court Street. At the end of Court Street turn right onto Marcy Street. The finish line is in front of Prescott Park. Join us for refreshments after the race!
