ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine men’s and women’s cross country teams had several nice performances at the Maine Open on Saturday morning on the campus of the University of Maine. Taylor Phillips (Brookfield, Conn.) led the men’s team with his first-place finish while Whitney Chamberlain (Scarborough, Maine) led the women’s team with a second-place finish. The meet was a non-team scoring event.
Phillips ran the 3.2 mile course in 16:33 and was followed by Patrick Mullarkey (Mendon, Mass.) with a time of 16:36 and David Currier (Sidney, Maine) in fourth with a time of 16:44.
Chamberlain ran the course in a time of 20:41 and was followed by Hope Hopkins (North Brookfield, Mass.) in third with a time of 21:25 and Erica Normandeau (Hopkinton, Mass.) in fourth with a time of 21:51.
The cross country teams return to action on Sunday, Sept. 13 at the America East Pre-Race in Burlington, Vt.
I am currently trying to get all the results set and emailed to all the
participants. It might take a couple of days because I have finals coming up
but I'll try to get them out ASAP.

This event may have not been or Hope may have been lost!
If you entered this running event please give us a report. It is our understanding: runners were asked to pay a Fee: $10.00. ($5 Student) The public & students were asked to please make checks payable to “The Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine” If a runner wanted a t-shirt you could pay another $15.00. No report on how many runners took the event up on this “deal”. No report on the number of people who did the run to support “Hope”! Well, no report as early Monday 27 April 2009! It is not at all clear who has the information or what if anything the runners would get for their $10.00 or & $5.00. One might think at least the winner would have his/her time recorded? It is my hope to pass on the results as soon as I get them. I am very hopeful. See my question & the answer I was given.
