    Wild west coming to Richmond
Author: DARCIE MOORE; Times Record Staff

    Article Text:

    RICHMOND

Put on your cowboy boots and tie your lasso, because it’s going to be a wild time in Richmond this weekend during the town’s annual Richmond Days celebration.

This year’s theme is the Wild Wild West and there will be a mechanical bull, pony rides, an antique photo booth, a game of Texas Hold’em and more.

The children’s parade will start at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Participants should line up at Richmond Utilities District on Front Street.

Many of this year’s Richmond Days events will take participants back in time to the Wild Wild West. Events kick off Friday night at 6 p.m. with a Texas Hold’em Tournament at the American Legion Post 132 on Carding Machine Road with a $100 buy-in; and pony rides on Front Street. At 7 p.m. there is a cowboy campfire at waterfront park, followed at 8:30 p.m. by an outdoor showing of the animated film “An American Tail: Fievel Goes West.”

Richmond Days heats up Saturday with horse drawn carriage rides, a performance at the gazebo by The Salt Water Hillbilly, a rodeo roper at the waterfront park and a wild west costume contest for children and adults at 2 p.m. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., The Hippity Hoppity Derby will let riders jump on a horses and bounce their way to the finish line, racing friends. A mechanical bull will be bucking riders at the waterfront from 4 to 7 p.m.

And it wouldn’t be the Wild Wild West without a High Noon Duel with the town’s police chief and fire chief, who will be arm wrestling.

Many of the Richmond Days annual events are returning — there will be a 1- mile fun run Saturday at 7:45 p.m. followed by a 5K at 8 a.m.

The parade begins Saturday at 10 a.m at the high school parking lot, and will travel down Main Street, left onto Front Street, left onto Kimball Street through Boynton Street, left onto Williams Street and right onto Main Street, back to the High School.

Starting at 11 a.m., Compass Rose Events will have a bounce gouse, a giant inflatable waterslide and an interactive course. Swan Island tours launch every two hours between 11:15 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Saturday, with a price of $5 for people over age 5.

The dunk tank returns as well as the children’s firemen muster, lobster crate races and free pontoon rides.

For evening entertainment, the country band Cold Blue Steel will perform at the gazebo from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday followed by fireworks over the waterfront at 9:15 p.m.

Sunday there is a 10K on Swan Island at 9 a.m. Runners should meet at the Swan Island Landing to be ferried to Swan Island. Register online at running4free.com. Proceeds benefit the Swan Island Education Fund.
